Analysis of an Asymmetric Leader Election Algorithm

چکیده
We consider a leader election algorithm in which a set ofdistributed 'ob· jects (people, computers, elc.) try to identify one object as their leader. The election process is randomized, that is, at every stage of the algorithm. those objects that survived so far flip abiased coin, and those who received, say a tail. survive for the next round. The process .continues until only one objects remains. OUf interest is in evaluating the limiting distribution and the first two moments of the number of rounds needed to select a ]ea'der: 'We establish precise asymptotics for the first two moments, and show that the asymptotic"expression for the duration of the algotithm exhibits some perioPic fluctuatiobs'an:d consequently no limiting distribution exists. These results are proved by analytical techniques of the precise analysis ofalgorithms such as: analytical poissonization and depoissonization. Mellin transfonn. and complex analysis. The Asymmetric leader election algorithm: number of survivors near the end of the game
The following classical asymmetric leader election algorithm has obtained quite a bit of attention lately. Starting with n players, each one throws a coin, and the k of them which have thrown head (with probability q) go on, and the leader will be found amongst them, using the same strategy. Should nobody advance, will the party repeat the procedure. One of the most interesting parameter here i...

متن کاملThe Asymmetric Leader Election Algorithm with swedish stopping: A probabilistic analysis
We study a leader election protocol that we call the Swedish leader election protocol. This name comes from a protocol presented by L. Bondesson, T. Nilsson, and G. Wikstrand (2007). The goal is to select one among n > 0 players, by proceeding through a number of rounds. If there is only one player remaining, the protocol stops and the player is declared the leader. Otherwise, all remaining pla...
متن کاملPerformance analysis of Leader Election Algorithms in Mobile Ad hoc Networks
Leader election is an extensively studied problem in Ad hoc networks. In our study, we have implemented an extended idea of an existing leader election algorithm for energy saving to arbitrary topological changes. In this method, our focus is to reduce the number of leader election processes; to make it more energy efficient. Unlike the previous solutions, the algorithm proposes that each node ...
متن کاملA Modified Leader Election Algorithm for MANET
Distributed systems are the backbone of modern day computing services. A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes that can communicate via message passing over wireless links. Communication takes place directly between nodes which are in transmission range of each other else communication is done through message relay. A MANET is different from existing distributed network ...
